HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has announced that nearly 1.8 million couples in the UK use the Marriage Allowance to save up to £252 a year in income tax. Our database shows the total fiscal cost – or revenue forgone – of this benefit jumping from £350M in 2016 to £540M in 2020.
